About Mhairi Fraser

Mhairi Fraser has been local to the Epsom and Ewell constituency since 2007. She has previously worked at Leatherhead Food Research and the Marquis of Granby, and volunteered for Epsom Hospital radio; all three of her younger siblings went to school locally, at Glyn and Epsom College. Mhairi knows what it is like to live and work in the area, day in and day out, and what her neighbours and colleagues need from their MP.

Politics has, for far too long, seen people be rewarded for putting their own self-interest and backroom alliances before the interests of the public. As an international anti-corruption lawyer by trade, specialising in bribery, fraud, money laundering and sanctions, Mhairi is determined to bring integrity and accountability back to politics, and is committed to running a clean and respectful campaign.

As a lawyer, Mhairi also undertakes a range of pro-bono work, including representing a Nobel Peace Prize winner facing persecution from a foreign government, and separately volunteers at a foodbank. Prior to starting her legal career, she spent several years working in Parliament, helping constituents with personal problems ranging from finding appropriate SEN school places for their children, to obtaining community support for veterans suffering from PTSD.

Mhairi is deeply focused on being an effective local representative, by:

  1. Ensuring that the local community is provided with the infrastructure it needs, including excellent education, healthcare, housing and transport links, but fiercely protecting the Green Belt;
  2. Regenerating our town centres, which have been in decline for too long, by ensuring local businesses have an environment in which they can thrive, and protecting vital community assets such as post offices and face-to-face banking; and
  3. Reducing crime rates by working closely with the police and other community stakeholders, to ensure that everyone feels safe in the place they have chosen to call home.

Nationally, Mhairi intends to focus on radically improving mental health services, having seen too many people close to her being failed by a substandard level of support and care – it is a national tragedy that suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50, and no life should be lost in this way.

In her spare time, Mhairi enjoys taking her black Labrador Winston for long walks in the countryside or down to the local pub with family and friends – he is very friendly and loves giving high-fives, so do say hello if you spot him!
